This unit explores the introductory topics from Islamic Theology and develops your understanding about 20 central attributes of Allah Almighty.
Drawing on key theological texts, each lesson focuses not only on the scriptural basis for each attribute but investigates how you can rationally prove your beliefs about Allah Almighty to someone who does not accept Quran or Hadith as evidence.

Due their careful design, each lesson will gradually guide you through key theological discussions which Muslims, especially in the West, may be scrutinised about and how to respond to them.

- If God loves us, why do we suffer?
- Why is it impossible for there to be many Gods? Why just one?

- Identifying 20 attributes of Allah
- Explaining the rational proof or each attribute.
- Applying learned theory to contemporary theological debate.
- Exploring theological schools in Islam.
What will I learn?You will learn about:
- The Oneness of Allah.
- The meaning of Divine Power and its relation to destiny.
- The problem of evil and the Islamic response.
- Islamic view of anthropomorphism.
- Schools of Theology in Islam; The Maturidi and Ashari.
- Early sects in Islamic history.
- Spiritual implications of Allah’s Attributes.
- The issue of ambiguous verses in the Quran.
What will I achieve?By the end of this unit, you should be able to:
- Explain in depth the Islamic view of Allah’s Attributes.
- Analyse the rational basis for the Islamic view of God.
- Describe the development of theology in Islam.
- Evaluate contemporary criticisms of Islam.
Shaykh Waseem Ahmed
Manchester Shaykh Waseem is originally from Sheffield and currently resides in Manchester where he is the chairperson for ISNAD Institute and Director of the community initiative, Guidance Hub. He spent 7 years in Damascus, Syria, privately studying Theology, Jurisprudence, Legal Theory, Rhetoric, Logic and other disciplines with leading scholars including Shaykh Adnan Darwish and the late Shaykh Rashad Al-Shams. He also studied various branches of Arabic linguistics at Abu Nur Institute and specialised in Hanafi Legal Reasoning under Shaykh Mazin Bakir. In 2008, alongside his private studies, he was accepted onto the accelerated programme at Dawli Institute for Arabic and Islamic Sciences, in Damascus, which he completed in 2012. |
