Course Description

Prayer, or Salah as it is called in Arabic, is the means for human beings to communicate with Allah Almighty. It is, in the words of the Prophet (peace be upon him), what distinguishes a believer from a non-believer.

In fact, the importance of the 5 daily prayers can be understood from the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying: “The prayer is the coolness of my eye.”

We must prayer 5 times a day as an obligation. There are circumstances in which the rulings of prayer may change such as travelling and illness. In this unit we take a look at such scenarios and their rulings.
We also look at special occasions and prayers that occur through the year or due to an event such as the Eid prayer and the prayer for an eclipse.

We will learn about:
  • Congregational prayer and related matters
  • Prayer of the ailing
  • Prostration of Recitation
  • Friday prayer
  • Eid prayer
  • The traveller’s prayer
  • The solar and lunar eclipse prayer
  • Prayer at time of a drought
  • Funeral rites and the funeral prayer
