COURSE SYNOPSIS
This beginners Islamic studies covers the essentials every Muslim must learn. Subjects include:  Aqeedah (Beliefs), Fiqh/Jurispudence (Legal Rulings), Seerah (Prophetic Biography), Spirituality & Ethics, and Tafsir (Qur'anic Exegesis). Please see below for modular breakdown.

We aim to equip students with the essential obligatory knowledge needed to practice their faith with confidence. Developing the student's belief, understanding of the legal rules of worship and improving their practice of spirituality. This is done through a modern approach using integrated modules and with the assistance of the latest technological aids to improve the delivery and facilitate successful learning.

Our aim is to facilitate the study of Sacred Knowledge in a traditional way, giving students the opportunity to benefit from the company and instruction of teachers with a chain of transmission linking back to our noble Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. All the texts taught on this course have been distilled from the most authentic classical Islamic sources, as well as authoritative contemporary research.

Classes will be taught online via Zoom every Sunday 9.15 AM to 1:05 PM.
All recordings will be available to playback at any time. Students will have access to class recordings for up to 2 years.​

Shaykh Muhammad Yaseen

Born and raised in Birmingham, Shaykh Muhammad Yaseen developed an interest in acquiring the traditional Islamic Sciences from an early age. His enthusiasm led him to travel to the blessed lands of Sham (Syria), where he meet many great scholars and men of Allāh. He spent a year there studying Arabic at the University of Damascus as well as attending lessons of various Shaykhs in the mosques of Damascus. He was also blessed to attend gatherings at the residence of Shaykh Muhammad Al-Yaqoubi. 

Upon his return to the UK, Shaykh Yaseen continued his studies with Shaykh Rasul Bakhsh Saeedi and Mufti Yar Muhammad. He studied a number of classical texts across a variety of disciplines including Hadith Studies, Quranic Exegesis, Arabic linguistics, Jurisprudence, Theology, Legal Theory, Logic, and Hadith Principles.

Alongside his theological studies, Shaykh Yaseen completed his undergraduate studies in Computer Science​.

Since 2005, he has taught across the UK and lectured on a variety of issues. He assumed the post of Imam in Birmingham before serving as resident scholar at Al-Huda Zawiya, Dewsbury. More recently, he led curriculum enrichment for primary Islamic education in Birmingham and co-founded ISNAD Institute.

Shaykh Waseem Ahmed

Shaykh Waseem Ahmed has taught the Islamic sciences for over a decade. He has helped students understand Islam and practice it in their lives. With wisdom and hard work he has been a leading figure of spreading the prophetic teachings and helping Muslims confidently live the religion of Islam.

He began his search for sacred knowledge studying Arabic in the UK for a more than two years before leaving for Damascus in Ramadan 1426 (Oct 2005) to further his Arabic language studies at the Abu Nur institute. 

In 2007 Shaykh Waseem started studying privately under his teachers, Shaykh Ahmad Al-Khatib, and Shaykh Anas Al-Sharfawi. He completed works in Aqidah (Doctrine), Fiqh (Jurisprudence) , Spirituality, Arabic Grammar and Rhetoric.

In 2008 alongside his private studies he attended the accelerated programme at the Dawli Institute for Arabic and Islamic sciences in Damascus. He completed a traditional curriculum and graduated in the summer of 2012.

He was blessed to meet & study with some of the scholars of Damascus including, Shaykh Mazin Bakir, Shaykh Adnan Darwish and Shaykh Rashad Al-Shams.

Some of the works he studied include the famous Hanafi work Al-Ikhtiyaar (fiqh) of Imam Abdullah Al-Mawsili  in its entirety, most of Al-Ashbaah wa al-Nazha’ir (fiqh maxims) of ibn Nujaym, Mukhtasar Manar (fiqh principles) and Sullam Al-Munawraq (logic).

Amongst the teachers he was fortunate to learn from was Shaykh Muhammad Al-Yaqoubi. He studied many texts under him including; the Shama’il of Imam Al-Tirmidhi, the Principles of spirituality of Imam Ahmad Zarrooq, Adab Al-Suhbah of Imam Al-Sha’rani, The Sanusi Creed, parts of Al-Risalah Al-Qushayriyyah and the beginning of Iyha Uloom Al-Deen of Al-Ghazali. He also attended readings of some of the canonical hadith books (Sahih Muslim, Abu Dawud & Tirmidhi) with Shaykh Muhammad Al-Yaqoubi.

He also attended Lessons with Shaykh Muhammad Jumu'a, the great Hanafi jurist of Damascus,  studying under him several works on fiqh; parts of Al-Ikhtiyaar, the Hidaya, Maraqi Al-Falah and Bada'i Al-Sana'i.

He returned to the UK in 2012 and has been delivering lectures and regular courses around the UK since.

He co-founded ISNAD Institute and Sacred Vows Introduction Service as well as Guidance Hub where he is the Director of Adult Education and Spiritual Development.

Shaykh Waseem currently resides in Manchester with his wife and two children.

Course Delivery

Virtual Learning Environment
Students on this course will benefit from the full suite of features provided by Google Classroom. This will ensure all course materials and links to classes can be accessed from one central location as well as providing a state of the art platform where they can ask questions and communicate with the course instructors and submit optional tests and assignments.

Class Access/Recordings
Live classes will be accessible through the Zoom app. The link for the live classes will be available on the Google Classroom. All class recordings will be uploaded to YouTube immediately after the live class has concluded with links to the class recordings available on the Google Classroom.

Course Materials
All students will receive a link to access an electronic copy of the course materials on their Google Classroom.
